FREE LIVE WEBINAR: MANAGING THE CHALLENGE OF ANAESTHETIC HYPOTHERMIA IN OUR VETERINARY PATIENTS

Vi are delighted to welcome back board-certified anaesthesia specialist Dr. Colin Dunlop for anothe live, interactive webinar session on managing the challenges of anaesthetic hypothermia. Hypothermia (body temperature below 36⁰c) occurs in up to 80% of canine and feline patients under general anaesthetic, and has significant implications for patient welfare, recovery times from GA and staff resources in terms of recovering patients. Causes of anaesthetic hypothermia include small body size relative to body surface; vasodilation due to the action of pre-medication drugs; inhalation of dry, cold anaesthetic gases; loss of heat from open body cavities during surgery; and lack of shiver response whilst anaesthetised. Colin will share his extensive practical knowledge and experience in this field to offer a deeper understanding of the physiology of heat loss, its implications and consequences. He will also deliver advice, hints and tips around the rational use of warming equipment for
pre-medicated, anaesthetised and recovering patients, with a focus on patient safety, and the economics and environmental impact of patient warming devices.
This session will be suitable for any veterinary professionals with an interest in ensuring/improving the welfare of patients pre-, during, and post-surgery. Veterinary Surgeons, Veterinary Nurses, patient care staff and any other members of veterinary practice staff are all very welcome to attend.

Resident in Anesthesia/Critical Patient Care, (University of California, Davis), Assistant Professor
‘Clinical Sciences’, Associate Professor and Chief of the Anesthesia Section (Colorado State
University).
Colin is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Anesthesiologists. His research
interests include prevention of anesthesia morbidity and mortality. He consults in anesthesia and
critical care for small and large animal practice, biomedical research and provides Continuing
Education programs for veterinarians and veterinary nurses world-wide.
This webinar will be conducted via Zoom. The session will be approximately 90
minutes and will include the opportunity for Q&A. An attendance certificate will be
provided for all attendees at the live session.
